NEATFORM AT NIAGARA FALLS
Neat Concepts’ versatile Neatform
Bendy MDF product can now be seen at Niagara Falls in Ontario,
where the panels were used in the visitor centre at the Sir
Adam Beck II Hydro-Electric Power Station.
The centre features a 40-foot long, curved
mural, which was built by Ladson Creative Millwork, and used
the full height of the 48” x 96 long-cut version of
the 6mm Neatform panels, supplied by Robert Bury Canada.
Jon
Williams of Ladson said, “We used Neatform Bendy MDF
because of its smooth surface. It was essential in this application
because the mural consists of a long, sweeping curve onto
which a thin vinyl graphic was bonded. We discounted other
bending substrates because the wood grain was likely to telegraph
through the graphic or we would have had to add an intermediate
layer of laminate, which was unnecessarily expensive.”
He continued, “There were no issues
– it’s a great product which forms itself into
the required shape very easily. You don’t get the bumps
and hollows you sometimes get with bending plywood.”
The station is one of three hydro-electric
power stations located on the lower Niagara River boasting
a 95 metre drop to drive the sixteen generators to create
1,450 Mega Watts of power. It is owned and operated by Ontario
Power Generation, whilst the visitor centre is manned by employees
of the Niagara Parks Commission.
Martin James, Neat Concepts’ North
America and Canada sales manager says, “The pioneering
work undertaken in the early 20th Century to create the hydro-electric
power station in the Niagara Gorge is awesome and we are delighted
that Ladson Creative Millworks used Neatform for the mural,
which celebrates the achievements of these pioneering engineers.”
Neatform Bendy MDF is available in 48”
x 96” column wrap and 96” x 48” counter
wrap sheet sizes either 6mm (1/4”) or 9mm (3/8”)
thick. It is widely available throughout the USA and Canada
from more than 80 stockholding locations serving the professional
woodworking industry.
